I am a solicitor with 34 years experience, initially in the commercial and corporate finance field, and over the last 20 years as a specialist employment lawyer. I am a member of the Employment Lawyers Association and the Industrial Law Society. I provide consultancy services to employer clients and advice and guidance to employees who have employment problems.
Employers – how many times have you been told that your workforce is the most important asset of your business? How many times have you agreed, but either not known what you could or should do about it or done nothing about it anyway?
The logical options for a business that employs anything from 10 to 200 people are these:-
- Try and learn sufficient about the legal implications and requirements of managing your employees to enable you to do it yourself without taking your eye off your business and without ending up with an employment tribunal claim;
- Employ one of your employees to train up to the required level of knowledge and put them in charge; or
- Employ an already trained and qualified personnel manager. Can you find one worth his or her salt for less than £25,000 a year?
Employees – where can you go quickly and easily for a steer on an issue you have in the workplace – someone to provide you with sufficient knowledge to give you confidence?
What I offer is very pragmatic advice derived from many years of practical and technical experince as a specialist. My corporate background means that I do understand the commercial imperatives influencing businesses. I am also well aware of the stress that workplace issues can cause employees who feel vulnerable and threatened.
The advice I give is refreshingly robust and practical, that I cautiously suggest it will be hard to find elsehwere, particularly at the price!
